(Disclosure: this post does contain affiliate links if you buy anything through these links, I may receive a small percentage of the sale at no extra cost to you. It’s charming and fun and solid Acorn TV. It’s something I certainly hope receives a third series order (we’ll need lose thread answers). Beyond that minor complaint (that really isn’t one), Queens of Mystery is another solid group of installments. That said, since the Daniel relationship is so minor, we can forgive this. Especially where the slow build up from series one was with Daniel. She’s a great replacement physically and even characteristically, but some of the same “ease” may be missing. The one significant thing that does perhaps affect the chemistry a bit between characters like Beth, Cat, Jane (Siobhan Redmond) and Mattie is that Hall actually replaces series one actress Olivia Vinall as Mattie. All things that lead us to want to solve all the things with Mattie. This has interesting mysteries and also looks at the world of art and robbery. However I also like to acknowledge that if this short run is what quality looks like, then I’ll take that any day over mediocre. Another thing that makes us take notice is the short run of three sets of two part episodes (so six in total, but they work as a set of three two-part stories). They may not always be a favorite given the story they tell, but the quality is always there and it makes us sit up and take notice. TV SERIES REVIEW | ‘GRANTCHESTER,’ SERIES FOUR: A SWAN SONG FOR SIDNEY ‘QUEENS OF MYSTERY,’ SERIES TWO: ACORN RETURNS TO THE COZY VILLAGE FOR MORE FUN! #QUEENSOFMYSTERY #TVSHOW #ACORNTV #GOODTV #MYSTERY #COZYMYSTERY Click To TweetĪcorn TV never seems to produce something that isn’t top quality. Of course, also proving a distraction is perhaps a new clue into the long ago disappearance of Mattie’s mother. But as clues start to pile up, it begins to seem as though there may be more than one red herring. Mattie must set to work solving the murder of the woman who ran the retreat all while trying to keep her wits about her when working with Daniel, the coroner. One that involves a health retreat where her aunt’s Beth (Sarah Woodward) and Cat (Julie Graham) are staying for Beth’s work. Despite the surprise and devastation (after all, when Matilda and Daniel’s eyes met there was a spark!), Mattie is soon distracted by a case. You see there’s an announcement in the paper that Daniel is now engaged. Puzzled but not knowing what it is, it isn’t until she gets to work that her co-worker spills the beans. Daniel Lynch (Andrew Leung), DS Matilda Stone (Florence Hall) has a sneaking suspicion her aunts, with whom she lives, seem to be keeping something from her. Queens of Mystery, Series Two (2022) Acorn TV ReviewĪfter unintentionally snubbing Dr. Queens of Mystery, series two returns with some changes, but it’s still the same in the ways that matter. I love their storytelling, acting and just in general, what they commission. Everything I try from them (and there’s still some I haven’t seen) is brilliant. In case you didn’t know, I am a pretty dang avid fan of the streamer Acorn TV.
